Visualize Success: Imagine your ball soaring gracefully through the air, landing perfectly on the green. Channel your inner Wonder Woman and picture yourself conquering the course with every shot. Remember, if you can dream it, you can achieve it!
Stay in the Present: Forget about that last shot that went into the water. Focus on the here and now, like you're in a yoga class. Breathe in, breathe out, and let go of the past. Namaste on the fairway!
Develop a Pre-Shot Routine: Create a pre-shot routine that feels like a mini spa moment. Take a deep breath, stretch a little, and visualize your perfect shot. It's your time to shine, so make it a ritual you love.
Use Positive Self-Talk: Replace those negative thoughts with empowering affirmations. Tell yourself, "I am a golf goddess," "I can do this," and "Watch out, LPGA, here I come!" Positive vibes only!
Set Realistic Goals: Break down your goals into bite-sized pieces. Instead of aiming to be the next Annika Sörenstam overnight, focus on improving one aspect of your game at a time. Celebrate each small victory with a happy dance!
Control Your Breathing: Deep, controlled breathing isn't just for meditation. Use it to calm your nerves before a tricky shot. Inhale confidence, and exhale doubt. You got this!
Focus on the Process, Not the Outcome: Concentrate on your swing, your stance, and your strategy. Forget about the scorecard for a moment. It's all about the journey, not just the destination.
Practice Mindfulness: Be present in the moment and enjoy the beauty of the course. Listen to the birds, feel the breeze, and appreciate the greenery. Golf is your happy place, so soak it all in.
Learn from Mistakes: When things don't go as planned, don't sweat it. Analyse what went wrong, learn from it, and move on. Every mistake is a stepping stone to greatness.
Stay Positive: Keep a positive attitude, even when the golf gods seem to be against you. Smile, laugh, and remember that every round is a new opportunity to improve and have fun.
I hope these tips bring a smile to your face and help you enjoy your time on the course even more. If you have any specific areas you'd like to focus on, let me know!

Club fitting is the process of customizing golf clubs to match your individual swing characteristics, body measurements, and playing style.
This involves adjusting various aspects of the clubs, such as length, lie angle, loft, shaft type, and grip size.
The goal is to create a set of clubs that maximize your performance and comfort on the course.
Why is Club Fitting Important for Women?
When starting in golf the best and most cost-effective way to get your first set of clubs is to buy a women’s package. This will include all the clubs you need in a bag and set you up to play for many years.
Women often have different physical characteristics and swing dynamics compared to men, which means that standard off-the-shelf clubs may not be the best fit when your game improves and your handicap lowers. Properly fitted clubs can help you achieve better distance, accuracy, and consistency. Here are some specific reasons why club fitting is important for women:
Length: Women's clubs are typically shorter than men's to accommodate for a women’s generally shorter arm lengths and height. Custom fitting ensures the clubs are the right length for your body.
Shaft Flex: Women often benefit from shafts with more flex, as they tend to have slower swing speeds than men. A fitting can determine the optimal shaft flex for your swing
Grip Size: Women's hands are usually smaller, so a fitting can help you find the right grip size for better control and comfort.
Lie Angle: The lie angle of the club affects the direction of your shots. A fitting can adjust the lie angle to match your swing, helping you hit straighter shots.
Loft: Women may benefit from clubs with higher lofts to help get the ball airborne more easily. During a fitting session, the best loft angle is determined and set for your clubs.
WHY SHOULD I GET FITTED?
It's a good idea to get fitted for clubs at various stages of your golfing journey:
When You're Starting Out: If you're new to golf, getting fitted early on can help you develop good habits and improve your game more quickly. Properly fitted clubs can make the learning process smoother and more enjoyable.
When You're Upgrading Equipment: If you're looking to upgrade your current set of clubs, a fitting can ensure that your new clubs are perfectly suited to your current swing and playing style.
When You Notice Changes in Your Game: If you've made significant changes to your swing or if your physical condition has changed (e.g., due to injury or aging), it might be time for a new fitting to ensure your clubs still match your needs.
Periodically for Fine-Tuning: Even if you have a set of fitted clubs, it's a good idea to get re-fitted periodically to make sure your equipment is still optimal for your game. Your swing can evolve, and regular fittings can help you stay on top of your game.
HOW DO I GET FITTED?
To get fitted, visit a professional club fitter or a golf shop that offers fitting services.
The fitter will analyse your swing using various tools and technologies, such as launch monitors and swing analysers. Based on this analysis, they will recommend adjustments to your clubs or suggest new clubs that are better suited to your needs.
Power Golf in O’riordan Street, Alexandria, has staff qualified to perform club fittings 7 days per week, and stock a huge range of brands to choose from. After work fitting sessions can also be arranged.
Remember, properly fitted clubs can make a significant difference in your performance and enjoyment of the game. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to ask!

Show Up Early: Arriving at least 30 minutes before your tee time is like getting to a party early; you get to scope out the scene, grab a drink (or in this case, a practice swing), and get comfortable. Plus, it gives you time to catch up on the latest golf gossip! The last thing you want to do is rush and get stressed before you play.
Respect the Course: Think of the golf course as your favorite pair of shoes; you wouldn't want to scuff them up, right? Always carry a sand bucket to fill divots, repair pitch marks on the greens, and rake bunkers after use. Keep the course looking fabulous for everyone!
Stay Quiet and Still: When someone is taking their shot, it's like they're in the middle of a yoga pose; stay quiet and still to avoid distracting them. Show some Zen-like respect for your fellow players.
Mind Your Shadow: Be aware of your shadow on the putting green. Make sure it doesn't fall on another player's line of putt. It's like avoiding stepping on someone's toes at a dance party, it’s just good manners!
Keep Up the Pace: Play at a good pace and keep up with the group in front of you. If you're falling behind, let the faster groups play through. Think of it as letting someone cut in line at the coffee shop if they are in a hurry, it’s just polite!
Follow Cart Path Rules: Adhere to any cart path rules, especially in wet conditions, to prevent damage to the course. Always check with the golf shop for specific rules. It's like following the rules of the road – safety first!
Warm Up Properly: Use no more than three balls when warming up on the green to avoid confusion and disruption for other players. It's like not hogging all the appetizers at a party, share the space!
Respect Dress Codes: Follow the dress code of the golf club you're playing at. This typically means wearing appropriate golf attire. Think of it as dressing up for a fancy dinner, look good, feel good!
Be Considerate: Stand out of your playing partner's line of vision and remain quiet during their swing. This helps them concentrate and perform their best. It's like giving someone space to nail their karaoke performance; let them shine!
Handle Equipment with Care: Treat golf carts and other equipment with the utmost respect, and avoid driving on or near the greens. It's like borrowing a friend's car – treat it with care!
Practice swings: limit your pre-shot practice swing to just one, and you should not be doing practice swings on the tee box while others are hitting their shots.
By following these etiquette guidelines, you'll contribute to a positive and enjoyable golfing experience for everyone on the course. Plus, you'll look fabulous doing it! Happy golfing! ⛳😊

As a women's golf instructor, I understand that starting in golf can be both exciting and overwhelming. The sheer amount of equipment available can be daunting, and the costs can add up quickly. But don't worry, I'm here to help you navigate the process and choose the right gear without breaking the bank.
First and foremost, you don't need a full set of 14 clubs when you're just starting. A basic set that includes a driver, a fairway wood, a hybrid, a few irons (like 5, 7, and 9), a pitching wedge, sand wedge and a putter will suffice. Look for clubs that are designed for beginner women, as they are more forgiving and easier to hit.
Many brands offer women's packages that are reasonably priced and perfect for new golfers. These include all the clubs the beginner needs and come in a new bag. Think of it as your golf starter pack.
Twice a year, I run club fitting events at Power Golf in Alexandria for beginner women golfers. At these events, guests can have a hit with the clubs. Beginner packages are available for all budgets, and I will even serve you a glass of bubbles.
The next event is on Saturday 3rd May from 400pm to 600pm.
When it comes to golf balls, choose ones that are designed for beginner players. These balls typically have SOFT written on them and have a softer core and a durable cover, which can help you achieve better distance and control. You don't need to invest in the most expensive balls right away; there are plenty of affordable options that will work just fine as you learn the game. Let’s be honest, you'll probably lose a few in the water hazards anyway, no need to throw money into the pond!
Tees, you will need a variety of tees in your golf bag. In store, we have packets of tees that have a range of sizes in each pack to suit the driver, fairway wood and irons. Ask the staff in the store for their recommendations.
A lightweight and comfortable golf bag is essential. Beginner packages come with a lightweight bag that has lots of pockets to store your goodies. The hardest part is choosing the colour and then working out in which pocket you put your goodies.
Investing in a good pair of golf shoes with proper support and grip is important. Comfortable shoes can make a big difference, especially when you're walking the course. You don't need to go for the most expensive pair; many affordable options provide excellent support and comfort. Coming into the store and trying on various brands and styles is important. Just because your friend has a certain brand, and style doesn’t mean that they will suit your feet. Remember, blisters are not a golfer's best friend!
A golf glove can help you maintain a better grip on the club and prevent blisters. Make sure it fits snugly. It's a small investment that can make a big difference in your game. Plus, it makes you look like a pro, even if you're still working on that swing.
Traditionally, if you are a right-handed golfer, you would wear a glove on your left hand, although it is possible to wear a glove on both hands. I recommend it for sun protection.
When it comes to clothing, wear comfortable, weather-appropriate attire that allows for a full range of motion.
Many golf courses have dress codes, so check the requirements before you go. The rule of thumb for the dress code is no denim, no cargo pants, no gym tights, and shirts must have a collar or mock collar with no loud slogans.
You don't need to buy a whole new wardrobe; just make sure you have a few key pieces that are comfortable and suitable for the course. And remember, golf fashion is all about looking good while chasing that little white ball!
I love golf outfits and have more golf clothes than other clothes. Over the years, I have learnt from my mistakes and now have a set of rules I follow.
I only purchase the full set, a bottom and top. Never just the top. You will end up with all these mismatched items that you never wear.
I only wear pull-on skirts. They make your tummy look flatter than a skirt with a zip and button.
I only wear sleeveless polo shirts in the summer to avoid the t-shirt sleeve tan. Not a good look when you go out to dinner in a sleeveless dress. It's bad enough having white feet and brown legs!!!
As a beginner, I suggest sticking to black or navy bottoms and jackets and coloured or patterned shirts.
A good quality jacket is important. Not just any jacket, a golf brand jacket. Quilted body and thinner sleeves. Look for thin zips. Thicker zips poke out when you bend over the ball, and you will catch the end of your grip on it, especially when putting.
Remember, the most important thing is to find equipment that feels comfortable and suits your playing style. If you feel good, you will play well.
Don't be afraid to try out different clubs and gear to see what works best for you.
Have a great time out on the course and keep on swinging.

Hello, fellow golf enthusiasts! I'm Andrea McGann, your fun-loving tour hostess and the proud owner of Andrea McGann Golf Tours. If you love the game of golf and are looking for an adventure filled with laughter, camaraderie, and unforgettable moments, then buckle up because we're about to embark on a whirlwind tour of the world's best golf courses!
Navigating Your First Golf Tour: Tales from the Tour Hostess
Welcome, new golfer travellers! I believe that the only thing more exciting than your first golf competition is your first golf tour. But fear not, because I'm here to guide you through the hilarious whirlwind of greens, birdies, birdie shots, and a few too many mulligans.
Pre-Tour Excitement
So, you've signed up for your first golf tour. Congratulations! Your excitement is palpable, and so is your nervous sweat. You've printed, highlighted, and read the Guest Itinerary 15 times. You've packed and unpacked your golf bag multiple times. Do you need 36 golf balls and 12 tees? Should you take two pairs of old shoes or just your new ones (which are certain to give you blisters in Vietnam’s heat)? Your suitcase is bulging with outfits for the nightly dinners, but realistically, you'll probably only wear two outfits from home because you'll spend your free time shopping for new ones.
How many golf outfits do I need for 5 rounds 5? The first port of call at a golf club is the sales rack in the Pro Shop. I can guarantee you will come home with 5 new shirts proudly displaying the logo of the courses you play on the tour. Perfect to wear proudly at the club back home, and if you don’t find that golf shirt bargain, you can always wash your clothes in the hotel shower!
First Tee Jitters
Ah, the first tee of the first round. It's where dreams begin and sometimes end in a comical display of nerves. As I stand there, watching the first swing, I've seen a spectrum of outcomes: the baseball hit, the graceful ballet pirouette, and my personal favourite, with a mighty swing, the driver struck the ground, sending the head flying into the water hazard, where it disappeared forever. Remember, the goal here is not to win the Masters; it's to have fun and perhaps get a birdie so that you can enjoy the golf tour birdie shot (as you won't be driving home).
The Hazards: Real and Imagined
Sand traps, water hazards, trees, and too many 19th hole "two for one" happy hour cocktails. These are the challenges you'll face on the course. I can't tell you how many times I've seen someone take a swing only to send a ball skipping across the water like it's auditioning for a ballet. And then there's the dreaded bunkers. Think of the giant 20-footer at Barnbougle Lost Farm; many a ball has been tossed out of here in frustration. Hazards on golf courses are only there so that the stories on the 19th hole appear even funnier.
Golf Cart Shenanigans & Caddies
Golf carts. Oh, the joy and terror. With the caddies standing tall on the back platform, holding on for dear life as the tourist golfer navigates the windy cart paths of the pristine resort courses while being directed, right, left, stop, go. These little vehicles are the unsung heroes of our tours and provide a source of countless laughs (mostly from the caddies at our expense). Some caddies are natural comedians, always ready with a joke or a funny story to lighten the mood. Others are passionate about the game, offering tips and encouragement to help you improve your swing. Then there are the caddies who are excellent storytellers, sharing fascinating anecdotes about the courses and the famous golfers who have played there. No matter their style, all our caddies share a common goal: to ensure you have the best time possible on the course.
The 19th Hole: Stories and Drinks
At the end of the round, we all gather at the clubhouse for the cherished tradition of the 19th hole. This is where the real fun starts, sharing tales of triumph, epic fails, and the occasional confession of the bending of the rules. With each drink, the stories get taller and the laughter louder. By the time we're done, you'll have forgotten the score and remembered the joy of the experience.
The Other Tour Activities
Beyond the fairways and greens, my tours offer a plethora of activities that cater to all tastes and interests. Picture yourself indulging in exquisite dinners at gourmet restaurants, where the culinary delights are as memorable as the rounds of golf themselves. Meet each evening at the finest cocktail bars with your newfound golf friends and share the latest cocktail trends while reliving the day's golfing experiences. If your palate craves more, join us on a Winery Tour, where you will learn about the winemaking process from passionate experts and taste their products while enjoying lunch. For art enthusiasts, visits to local galleries provide a cultural immersion, showcasing both contemporary and traditional works that capture the essence of the region. For those seeking relaxation, a visit to a day spa offers a serene escape. Unwind with luxurious treatments designed to rejuvenate your body and soul, leaving you refreshed and ready for the next round of golf.
Wrapping Up the Tour
As your Hostess, my goal is to make sure your golf tour is memorable for all the right reasons. Whether you hit a hole-in-one at Jacks Point in Queenstown (this did happen on last November’s tour), see the snow-topped peak of Mt. Fuji, visit the famous temples of Angkor Wat, or hit onto a cliff-top green at Cape Kidnappers, the key is to enjoy the journey, embrace every minute on pristine golf courses, enjoy the international cuisine at our nightly dinners, say yes to every offered cocktail, and laugh as much as you want with your newfound golf friends.

Finding Calm and Connection: One Woman's Journey into Golf
As a golf instructor, I have the privilege of witnessing many personal transformations through the game of golf. One story that particularly touched my heart is that of Vanessa Berry, who recently shared her journey with me in a heartfelt thank-you note. With her permission, I'd like to share her story and some tips for beginners who are just starting their golf journey.
Vanessa's story is one of resilience and rediscovery. As a self-proclaimed workaholic and perfectionist, she often found herself lost in the endless cycle of work, isolated from connections and losing touch with who she truly was. The pressures of her job consumed her, and as she hit menopause, her anxiety skyrocketed, and her nervous system felt completely out of control. Her once-occasional 5 PM gin and tonic habit started to increase, and she felt like she was losing herself more and more each day.
Amid this chaos, Vanessa decided to take a leap of faith and signed up for my 10-week "Get into Golf" program. Little did she know, this decision would change her life in ways she couldn't have imagined.
From the very first lesson, Vanessa was hooked. There was something incredibly therapeutic about hitting that little white ball. It required focus, precision, and patience – qualities that she had always valued but had somehow lost along the way. Each swing of the club brought a sense of calm and clarity that she hadn't felt in years.
The program was not just about learning the technical aspects of golf; it was about finding a new sense of achievement, connection, and determination. Vanessa embraced the process, celebrated small victories, and learned from her mistakes. As the weeks went by, she found herself looking forward to our sessions more and more. The golf course became her sanctuary, a place where she could escape the stresses of work and life.
One of the most surprising aspects of Vanessa's golf journey was how it helped her manage her anxiety. The focus required to play the game forced her to be present in the moment, quieting the constant chatter in her mind. The physical activity and fresh air also did wonders for her nervous system, helping her feel more balanced and in control.
As she improved her skills, Vanessa began to set new goals for herself. Whether it was hitting a certain distance, mastering a tricky shot, or simply enjoying a round without getting frustrated, each achievement brought a sense of pride and fulfillment. It was a reminder that she was capable of growth and success, both on and off the course.
Vanessa's journey into golf was about so much more than just learning a new sport. It was about rediscovering herself, finding balance, and reconnecting with the world around her. Golf taught her the importance of patience, perseverance, and self-compassion. It reminded her that it's okay to take a break, to ask for help, and to celebrate the small wins.
For those who are just starting their golf journey, here are some tips to help you get started:
1. Start with the Basics: Focus on learning the fundamentals of the game, such as grip, stance, and swing. These basics will form the foundation for your golf skills.
2. Practice Patience: Golf is a game of patience and persistence. Don't get discouraged by mistakes or bad shots. Instead, use them as learning opportunities.
3. Stay Present: Concentrate on each shot and stay present in the moment. This will help you stay focused and improve your performance.
4. Enjoy the Process: Remember that golf is not just about the result, but also about enjoying the journey. Celebrate small victories and having fun along the way.
5. Seek Guidance: Don't hesitate to seek help from a golf instructor or join a beginner's program. Professional guidance can make a significant difference in your progress.
6. Stay Active: Regular practice and physical activity will help you improve your skills and maintain your overall well-being.
Vanessa's story is a testament to the transformative power of golf. If you ever find yourself feeling lost or overwhelmed, I encourage you to pick up a club and give golf a try. You might just find that hitting that little white ball can bring a sense of calm, interest, and joy that you never knew you needed.
